If you’re looking for a quintessential European getaway, look no further than Antibes, a hidden gem nestled along the beautiful Côte d’Azur in the south of France. I recently had the chance to explore this charming coastal town, and it quickly became my favorite spot on our family’s Mediterranean adventure. A Perfectly Positioned Gem
Located between the more famous cities of Cannes and Nice, Antibes often flies under the radar for tourists. This is precisely what makes it so special—it offers all the allure of the French Riviera without the overwhelming crowds. Not only is it under 30 minutes from Nice Airport, but it also boasts excellent train connections, making it incredibly easy to get to.
When we arrived, we were immediately captivated by the marina, where the sight of luxurious yachts greeted us. Antibes has long been a favorite for the wealthy, and it’s easy to see why. With its beautiful views, delightful streets, and laid-back vibe, it’s an idyllic place to unwind.
Getting There and Around
We flew directly from Atlanta to Nice with Delta Airlines, which made the journey much easier—no layovers or unnecessary delays. Upon arrival, a quick Uber ride took us straight to the heart of Antibes in less than 30 minutes. We stayed in the Old Town, which is a charming blend of narrow, cobbled streets and trendy shops and restaurants.
If you’re coming from Paris, there’s a direct train to Antibes that takes just under five and a half hours, or you can continue your journey along the coast. The town’s proximity to other iconic spots like Cannes and St. Tropez makes it an excellent base for exploring the region.
Exploring the Heart of Antibes
Antibes offers a delightful mix of old-world charm and modern amenities. The Old Town, known as Vieil Antibes, is a maze of picturesque streets filled with quaint boutiques, cozy cafes, and plenty of gelato stands. The cobblestone streets give the town a medieval feel, while the vibrant Mediterranean atmosphere keeps it lively.
A stroll around the Old Town will bring you to the Marché Provençal, a bustling open-air market where you can find fresh local produce, cheeses, and spices—perfect for stocking up on snacks. If you’re in the mood for culture, head to the Picasso Museum, located in the historic Château Grimaldi. Picasso spent time in Antibes during the 1940s, and the museum houses some of his finest works.
Enjoying the Mediterranean Sun
Antibes is all about embracing the outdoors. We spent a day relaxing on the soft sands of Plage de la Gravette, a quiet beach just a short walk from the Old Town. For those seeking something more luxurious, Plage Keller offers beach club vibes with delicious food and great views.
One of the highlights of our trip was hiking around Cap d’Antibes, a scenic peninsula known for its stunning coastal paths and panoramic views. The Sentier de Tirepoil hike takes you along rocky coves and hidden beaches, offering glimpses of some incredible mansions along the way. It’s the perfect way to enjoy the natural beauty of the region.

We stayed in a small but charming apartment in the heart of Old Town, which gave us easy access to all the main attractions.

Dining Delights
Antibes is a foodie paradise, offering everything from fresh seafood to delicious pastries. We enjoyed long, leisurely lunches at local cafes and discovered a love for French charcuterie boards, which Matt adored. The kids were all about indulging in gelato and pastries, and I couldn’t resist stopping for coffee at one of the many charming cafes that dot the town.
If you’re looking for a special dining experience, Plage Keller is a must-visit. Set on the beach with a view of the Mediterranean, it’s the perfect spot for a fancy lunch or dinner, but make sure to reserve in advance.
Fun for the Whole Family
What I love about Antibes is that it has something for everyone. The Old Town is a great place for wandering, window shopping, or relaxing with a coffee. For the kids, there are plenty of fun activities like playing in the sand at the beach or enjoying a stroll around the port, where you can admire some of the world’s most impressive yachts.
There are also plenty of other nearby attractions, such as the Fort Carré, a 16th-century fortress offering lovely coastal views and gardens. If you’re into shopping, Antibes has a number of chic boutiques offering everything from fashion to unique home decor.

Whether you’re looking to relax on the beach, enjoy fine dining, or explore charming streets filled with history, Antibes delivers. It has all the charm of a small French village but with the added appeal of stunning Mediterranean views and a vibrant cultural scene.
